Job Summary
The Detention Installation Technician position will require a self-starting, motivated, individual willing to work solo, or supervise 1-2 apprentices, while being responsible for installation of detention doors, detention locks and detention furniture. As a Detention Installation Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring DPS Group’s highest quality standards are met and that all safety procedures are observed.
Essential Functions:

Work closely with Supervisor, and other trades, to maximize the opportunity for savings regarding the installation of field materials to include the labor.

Necessary to have and maintain certain personal tools as directed by Company.

Will read and comply with all guidelines provided in the Employee Handbook, Safety Manual, or Policy and Procedure Manual, and will require any field employees under their leadership to do the same

Strong commercial construction background.

Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.

Able to maintain professional appearance and conduct at all times.

All other duties as assigned.
Competencies

Technical capacity with attention to detail.

Willingness, and ability, to travel to various job sites in the Southeast USA. (Typical out of town stays are 1- 2 weeks) Out of town work will comprise 75%-90% of your work year.

Ability to receive written, or verbal, daily task assignments from a Supervisor and execute the assigned tasks without constant supervision.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints

Ability to MIG and Stick weld.

MUST own, and have on hand, Journeyman level hand tools at all times

Effective quality control combined with the ability to complete work in a neat, safe, and professional manner

Knowledgeable and proficient in the methods and standards of basic carpentry.

Knowledgeable and proficient at working on mechanical devices and simple machines.

OSHA 10 certificate, or willingness to complete through DPS Group,
Work Environment
This position will work at multiple construction sites which are in several different states. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving machinery, loud noise and vibration, and other construction hazards. This position is performed inside and outside with uncontrolled weather conditions.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color
vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. 40 hours per week. Typical work weeks are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some overtime will be required depending on the project.
Travel
There are always a few local projects, but most projects are out of town (100 miles plus from Wetumpka, AL), so the ability and willingness to travel is a must. Albeit there is typically travel involved with job, we do not require 2-3 month out of town stays. Typical work schedules allow for returning home every 1 to 2 weeks.
Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED
-
3+ years of experience in commercial and/or industrial construction

Proficiency with Microsoft Office
-
Experience & Knowledge of Framing. Layout, Carpentry, Welding & Fabricating.
Preferred Education and Experience
Certified Welder
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Must have dependable transportation, valid driver's license, clean back-ground check and ability to pass a Hair & Urine drug screen.
